When you download a file, Windows adds a BLOCKED marker to it. This is a significant issue for developers when users report that a program fails to install or, despite installation, doesn't function correctly. The same applies to drivers.

It is a nuisance because Windows does not distinguish between safe and harmful files. It just blocks everything you download, which is why you sometimes get the "Are you sure you want to open this file?" warning.

Right-click on the file you just downloaded, go to Properties, and check the Unblock button at the bottom if it says it was blocked because it came from the internet. If you don't do this, the installer will not have the proper privileges, which will lead to an erroneous installation.

To prevent Windows from automatically blocking downloaded files, check this guide: Enable or Disable Block Files Downloaded from Internet in Windows

One problem persisting from prior version is that under Network Map -> View List -> Show By -> Network, only Wired items show up for me after the first viewing. Everything shows up under the default "All", and the per-network lists are filled when I click on the computer icon above "View List" to see the "Client Status" pane on the right of the window, so it isn't the end of the world.

I did a manual update this morning, and my 2.4 GHz IoT subnet and its 14 clients have been fine.

Just curious, did you do a factory reset like Spartan did, or just ran the update?

I have all the settings written down, but would like to avoid re-entering everything if I can.

I'm waiting for the other users in the house to go out before I update and if I have to reset and re-enter all the settings.

Thanks
GJ

I have updated yesterday, every 12 hour the complete iot wifi is freezing.(2.4 ghz) I am not reseted the router setting. I dont want to setup again.

I did not. Other things that may or may not be relevant: I run it as a single router, no mesh; all my 2.4 GHz devices are on the IoT subnet, which is the only network that mixes bands, 2.4 and 5 GHz; I don't use AIProtection; all my settings are pretty much default.

working perfectly here, this is much better than the previous version

Yesterday I went the lazy route and just performed the upgrade without the factory reset.
I thought all went well, except this morning I realised that the washing machine and the smart plug were no longer on the network. (I don't have an IOT network set up, so the simple devices sit on the 2.4GHz network.) After that realisation, I went ahead and factory reset, before manually re-entering all the settings. I see that the washing machine and smart plug are back on the network.

URL filtering still doesn't work yet (but it wasn't in the release notes saying that it was). :( I can't wait until it does, so that one of my kids stops wasting their lives on TikTok. (I'm surprised, that app and website, are the biggest downloads in my house, beating out our 4K UHD TV, which streams something for at least 2h every night. TikTok must pre-fetch like crazy, to make the experience as seamless as possible. I can't think of any other reason to explain how SD or low quality HD 9:16 videos could use more download than a 4K UHD 16:9 video. Interesting, but evil.)

About 2 weeks ago, my luck ran out and my router crashed for the first time. It had been up for almost 50 days without issue. This was on the August fw (38962).
7 days later, it crashed again and on the weekend just passed, it crashed a 3rd time. Prior to crashes 1 and 2, there wasn't any noticeable degradation in performance and there was plenty of memory (>220MB free). Crash 3 happened in the early hours of the morning. No changes to settings or devices on the network before or after the crashes started. I got the logs for each crash and they look normal prior to the crash, except one of the last "normal" entries in each log was from the same smart light bulb. Could be a coincidence, because everything was running happily with the bulbs up until 2 weeks ago. I'm going to run with the October fw (38979) without making any settings or network changes to see if it fixes the crash issue. If it doesn't, I'll remove the bulbs and will see if that fixes it. (They're wasted anyway, as we just use them dumb bulbs.) Fingers crossed.

Looks like the 2.4GHz network continues to drop for me, even after a factory reset and re-entering all of the settings.

Initially, the 2.4 network is present, but some time after 1h, it disappears. I can't even see it in a scan with my phone.
If you disable and re-enable that radio, it is back, only for it to disappear again in the following hour.
Today I restarted the radio because I needed to sync my bicycle computer prior to a ride and then went out for about 90min. After I left with my bicycle computer, the only device still on the 2.4GHz network was the washing machine. I don't know, but I don't think the washing machine is the issue. I think the October fw has introduced a major issue.

Let me know if anyone has managed to keep the 2.4GHz radio working with the October fw, because I'd like to see if there is a difference in our setups that might be causing it.

Thanks,
GJ

2.4GHz works for me all the time because my Brother printer is connected to it and it's always available.

As for blocking TikTok, I don't rely on the router's blocking, I subscribed to Control D DNS to take full control of everything, after setting up the DNS in the router to the ones from Control D, I go to Control D's dashboard and can block services such as Roblox, TikTok, you name it. I also use the OISD Filter list so all devices see no ads.

The router has a built in Control D for adblocking which is free but if you want more control you'd need to subscribe, it's only like a few bucks for a full year anyway.

Hmmm?
I wonder what is different between either our setups or environments?

Prior to the 2.4GHz radio going down, I get a series of messages in the log and then I get this message repeated a couple of times:
Nov 5 10:49:04 kernel: write_file: open file error, err = -2

After which, the devices on that radio disassociate (although this message is the same as when the device goes out of range or whatever):
Nov 5 10:49:04 wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(662): wl0.1: Disassoc xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx, status: 0, reason: Disassociated because sending station is leaving (or has left) BSS (8), rssi:0

And thank you for the DNS suggestion.

My setup is:

AiProtection = OFF
MLO = On
Smart Connect = ON
IoT SSID = On
DNS = Control D
QoS = OFF
AiMesh = On, connected to another BE92U

My rt-be92u 2.4ghz keep shutting off cutting off all devices connected, but in the firmware shows it’s still on. AI protection turned off QOS turned off 2.4ghz set to IoT off subnet no aimed i’ve reverted back to the old firmware the only way to fix it so far.

I would have to speculate that it affects different hardware versions in different ways. I've had a 3.0 brick and currently running version 4.1. Definitely hard reset as it's a node and no settings are affected except maybe the LEDs (on/off).

I didn't realize there were different versions of this relatively new router. I bought mine a couple months ago, and it's "H/W ver. 4.0." I haven't had any problems with the current firmware or any of the problems people were reporting early on with reboots and whatnot. It's been a great router.

That's odd. I re-checked and the sticker on the bottom of my unit and it says HW Ver 1.0 and what seems to be a build date of 2024 (I bought it in April or May this year, not long after it was released here.). They progressed quickly to get from V1.0 to V4.1!

I'm going to change some of the settings to see if they make a difference. I'll change them one by one to see if a setting can be isolated.

Thanks,
GJ

Do you mind sharing the Ethernet Backhaul Mode setting you have? (Mine was enabled/on when it bricked).
