Asus RT-N65R

Has anyone used the Asus RT-N65R as an access point? I just installed a new Asus RT AC66R and am using my old N65R in AP mode. I can connect a laptop to the SSID in the N65R...but the internet connection is really slow. The AC66R and N65R are connected via a Netgear powerline 500
