ASUS RT-N66U Port Forwarding Help

freethinker

New Around Here
I recently bought the RT-N66U, tried setting up port forwarding for the first time, and was unable to connect to my Xbox One using a wired connection. I'm using Merlin 3.0.0.4._374.38_2-em firmware.

I followed the instructions on PortForward for connecting to the Xbox One, making sure Protocol was set to Both. For Local IP I entered 192.168.1.4. Maybe that's the wrong IP for the Xbox One? In the Xbox One Network settings it shows the IP adress as 192.168.0.4. I ran PFPortChecker and it showed that the ports were not open.

I also tried disabling Windows Firewall and that didn't work.

The RT-N66U's firewall is enabled.

I have an Actiontec G701D modem. Its firewall is turned off. In the G701D's WAN IP Adress settings RFC 1483 via DHCP is selected. RFC 1483 Bridged is also selected.

When I use my laptop wired with the RT-N66U I haven't experienced problems so far. I was even able to use utorrent without opening up any ports.

When I use my Xbox One directly connected to the Actiontec modem (so no router) I am able to connect without issue.

Any help appreciated.

I've included an attached image of the G701D's settings.

From what you wrote, the network and Xbox are on different subnets. The local IP address 192.168.1.x can never talk to 192.168.0.x or 192.168.3.x etc without special entries in the routing table. Basically, it's a configuration error and should be easy to fix.

Find out what subnet the main network is on and change the Xbox to that one. For example, change the IP address to 192.168.1.x. Your end goal is to put all devices on your home network on the same subnet (the '1' in 192.168.1.x) Make sure your Asus DHCP server is handing out IP addresses in that range.
