I knew that AsusWRT Merlin for WiFi 6 models have low priority for development but at the moment Asus released 306.102 firmware for many Wifi 6 devices as: AX86U Pro, AX88U Pro, GT-AX6000, GT-AX11000 Pro…. and they removed 304 firmware for these devices on their website. That means they will support only new 306.102 firmware offically for these devices.
Asus tricksters - Just before buying my AX86u Pro I went out there and only saw 3006_102 firmware thinking, incorrectly, that this model might have begun life on AsusWRT 5.0. Now that I think about it, It's been around a while and I knew it started life on the other branch. I know why they do it, though I wish they'd at least show a list of all the previous versions.
Asus likely pulled the listing of older firmware's for many of their routers due to the recent security vulnerability that is being exploited in the older unpatched firmware versions. They likely don't want people downgrading the firmware to older versions that are compromised. See the big discussion on that malware:

If one really, really, wants to downgrade to older stock Asus firmware on a RT-AX86U Pro and introduced unpatched security vulnerably they can do so at their own risk. Here is a listing of links to older Asus RT-AX86U Pro firmware. The current/latest as of this post firmware version for the RT-AX86U Pro is 3.0.0.6.102_34336. The following list of RT-AX86U Pro firmware was compiled by searching through the Asus Official subforum for "release" postings of RT-AX86U Pro firmware. It may not be all the firmware's released for that model but is likely a fair number of them.

Thanks, this is all I was curious about - would never rollback to these. I forget to look for reddit subforums, though there is literally one for everything.
I have the RT-BE86U, obviously installed Merlin, but what essential settings should I click? Anything essential I must install on the USB Drive as well?

No one can answer that without significantly more information on your use case, needs and wants. You should review the various addon scripts to see if there is anything you need or want to setup for your use case.
Asus-Merlin Addon Software Catalog This sticky post functions as a software catalog (with links to threads, scripts, and author names), grouped by functionality, to make it easier for Asus-Merlin users to find and install addons for their Asus routers without having to search through massive...

Even better
I then assume there are different ways to get the GPL than just the homepage.
Haven't really checked this before. But it felt kind of slow to add the GPL so far after a release.

If one needs to do that then they'll have to do what I did, either dig through old Release posts for their router in the Asus Official subforum. Or load up their router model's page in a site like Wayback Machine to get the old firmware listed and the link to download them. The links to old firmware seem to still work (at least the few I tried for the RT-AX86U Pro) so at least one still has a method of getting to the old Asus stock firmware.
Updated on 5Dec'24 from Beta my two GT-BE98_PRO's to 3006_102.2_2. Three observations over last two weeks...
1. One unit is ethernet cable backhauled as AIMesh unit. Every 2-3 days all LAN devices (not WifFi) would disconnect. Power off/on the unit, then all ok. After installing on the AiMesh unit ASUS stock firmware "FW_GT_BE98_PRO_300610237038" no more issues of LAN lockout. Did read in the ASUS change log, fixes for AiMesh, was worth a shot to correct what was occuring & it worked for this (there was no issues with a GT-AXE1600 as the AiMesh unit). Left the gateway Router GT-BE98_Pro on RMerlin's code, too much goodness in this, & all been ok.
2. Logon to the 192.158.50.1 GUI via Firefox. Never get logged out. If I do want to make any GUI panel movements/changes after awhile later, I have to manually logout, logon again, then I can move to whatever panel.
3. On the AiMesh panel for the GT-BE98_Pro, if I change the devices name, the AiMesh unit drops offline. Have to power the AiMesh unit off/on the unit to recover. The name change has been applied, once the AiMesh unit comes back online.
4. My signature line is current, with what I have running as Add-Ons.
does that mean a new 3006.xxx build is coming for the BE88U? I have a BE88U on the way so maybe I'll wait to install Asus-Merlin until the new build is out.
