AX58U as a node for AX88U main router

I just picked up an AX58U to use as an AI mesh node. Main router is an AX88U on merlin firmware. Should I leave the new router on stock firmware or flash current merlin firmware? AX88U isn't on the latest merlin firmware. Been hesitant to update because my setup is stable right now.
 
I am running RT-AX88U as router, RT-AX58U as AiMesh node, both on 386.2_2 - for my setup it is stable with no issues.
