so im in the process of re homing my AX88 and wondering if both of these two devices are on their perspective updated merlin firmware Will there be any problems put that other old router in to Mesh mode ? i know if in the past based on some threads i read it looks like it was problem outside of the vanilla official firmware ... wondering if thats still the case ?

Cheers

The general consensus is to use stock Asus firmware on AiMesh nodes. As always with AiMesh, give it a try and see if it works for your use case. AiMesh can be hit or miss for some. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Yes. You can use either stock or Asus-Merlin on the main router. Your choice. It is the AiMesh nodes where it is suggested to use stock firmware rather than Asus-Merlin firmware.

Read the Asuswrt-Merlin documentation.
