Which 10G port? What is the other end connected to?

I would use it to ensure it was working as expected.

This might sound stupid but I did not think of that making a difference if one port did indeed have an advantage but it makes sense it could only be beneficial when using the same port on the opposing side.

I have a arris s33 v2 with a 2.5g port
 
Even with a 2.5GbE Port, I would use it. The latency will be 'up to', 2.5 times less. ;)
