Axis is updating its H.264 compatible compression technology, Zipstream, and is adding real time video stream optimization that will lead to less bandwidth issues for customers, and better storage savings for today’s surveillance systems.
By adding dynamic frame rates to Zipstream, Axis is increasing the quality of video recorded while using less space on the storage device. This leads to customers being able to use higher resolutions on their cameras without having to worry about running out of storage space. For others, bandwidth issues will be less of a problem even as image detail increases. This improved resolution can be especially useful for identifying details that are not always that clear, such as tattoos or signs, with other compression technologies.
Surveillance systems will also benefit from Zipstream as video retention times can increase due to Zipstream’s compression capabilities, which will maximize the space used on flash-based storage cards.
Seen as a much improved successor to today’s compression standards, Axis Zipstream will be available in July 2016.
