BE88U struggling to join PS5 voice chat channel

Hey everyone, I’m recently back in Asus land after a few years away, thanks to a great Prime Day deal on the BE88U. I previously had a Netgear router that worked fine, but they stopped supporting it, so I made the switch.

Now, I’m running into an issue with my PS5, specifically with voice chat parties. It’s taking up to a minute to join a party, whereas with my old Netgear router, I could join instantly with no delay.

I’m using Wi-Fi, just like I did with the Netgear, and my PS5 shows a 94% signal strength. I also have AiProtection disabled.

Is there a setting I need to adjust to get back to instant party joins? Has anyone experienced this before?

Thanks in advance!

Does your BE88U have a public IP address? Log into the router and find the "WAN IP:" shown near the top of the Network Map page. Does this match the IP address shown by www.whatsmyip.org ?

On the PS5 go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. What results do you get?

That's strange they don't match. The router and the website show 2 different IP's. What could that mean?
It indicates that your router doesn't have a public IP address. That will make voice chat difficult.

What are the first two numbers of the router's "WAN IP:" address? e.g. 100.99.x.y

Is your BE88U behind another router? Perhaps supplied by your ISP?

What is the NAT type shown on the PS5 when you do the Internet Connection test?

It starts with 192. I have an ATT fiber modem that should be in IP passthrough mode but let me double check.

192.168.x.y is a private address. It's likely your passthrough settings are linked to your old router's MAC address. That MAC address will have changed with your new router.
Wow, how did you know right away that was the issue? I completely forgot that the IP passthrough was set to my old Netgear router. I will test it on my PS5 in a few hours when I have time. Thank you so much for your help!

Just tested it and joining voice chat is back to instant. Thank you so much for your help!
