Buying advice: Cheap reliable adsl2 modem to connect to netgear r700

Hi.

I have a netgear R700 router to which I connect all my devices, connected to a thompson netgear modem/router.
The thompson is not particularly reliable, particularly when port forwarding, and it can only be put in bridge mode via telnet and a procedure not explicitly supported by my ISP. As such, given I work remotely from home, I am not willing to fiddle with it and I would rather buy another modem, so I have a spare too.

Could somebody suggest a cheap model but reliable?
Even a router/modem would do, provided putting it in bridge modality is a straightforward procedure.
My contract is a meagre D/U 10Mbs/1,2Mbs, I guess it would be good to get a model capable of 24Mbs or higher in case I would get upgraded at some point.
I am fine buying second hand and discontinued models.

Thanks!

Aldo

Try a TP-Link TD8616, or the router versions 8816/8817.
If its not available, try a Zyxel P660R-F1.

All you need is bridge mode so as long as the router has bridge mode and good hardware for good sync speeds than it helps. There are a few companies that make good modems though and some arent well known. They used to be known for providing a robust multi DSL solution though so you may want to look them up but their hardware may cost more.

Since tp-link only has basic features they should be a good option as long as they have bridge mode.

Thanks so much for the advice!
TP-link models look reasonably priced, I'll try and get one of those then.
