Cabling advice

New Around Here
Hi

I'm buying a new apartment (small NYC place), and I'm looking for some cabling advice. I'll probably have an electrician pull the cables and install the plates, but I want to have an idea of the correct design. I have attached the floorplan, along with the location of various devices. The location of the router is also where my media cabinet, TV, etc will be. I plan on sticking the router and modem in or on top of the media cabinet.

My main question is. Should i make one run from there to each of the other locations and then have a switch at each of them? Or have a switch next to the router, and then make two runs from there to each of the two locations.

Apologies if my terminology is not correct, pretty new to this.

I guess I am not allowed to embed pics, so here is a link to the floor plan.

Without a doubt use two cables per outlet for redundancy then you can decide on your own what you will do about the switch locations.

Thanks Overdrive. That makes sense, so I will make two runs.

How about the switch location(s)? Does either permutation make more sense than the other?

It depends on how many devices need connected at each location, start with a switch next to the router, when the demand for more ports arises add a switch where it's needed.

I don't know if you are interested but you can find cheap (< $100 ) used 24+ port gig managed switches on Ebay, going with managed would allow you to aggregate connections or if you need QOS and logging in the future.
