Cheap AC87R (refurb)

Check out this offering from NewEgg. I don't need one but I almost pulled the trigger and snapped it up anyway. If anyone can use a cheap refurbished RT-AC87R then here's your chance. I have a refurbished RT-AC87U running my home network as I type this. :)

Anyways, here is the link:

They are "offering" it, they should have so many wrecked and they need to sell them out fast, or they will not have room left to the next wrecked shipment. :)

I've had great luck with refurbs, the AC87U powering my home network right now is itself a refurbished "offering" from NewEgg. However I always wipe them clean and start from scratch. :)

Edit: They do have a few as the "limit" is 15 per customer.

Even at that price i dont know if consider it a so much good purchase, since you probably will have bad news sooner or later on this model (RT-AC87U), at each day it seems to be a more disapointment, starting on the FW and ending on the RMA's.

Thanks to crap$$ Quantenna chip inside, all RMAs in here so far are always the same, 5GHZ band and LAN1 port dead, appart from that the router works fine, 2.4GHZ band (Broadcom) and port 2,3,4 still working great.

My actual new RT-AC87U (new revision) is still working so far, but i use it only for test purposes, i dont give too much credits on it even its a new revision.

Yeah, but for the price... Its the price of a RT-AC66U. :)

Anyway, congrats on your purchase and... Good luck!!!! :)

15 per customer? I guess they have a truck full of refurbished RT-AC87Us up to the ceiling then. :)

Note: 90 days Warranty.

IMO ASUS at this time should be so regretted of releasing this model to the market, or should i say, putting a Quantenna chip inside?

I'm not giving up on the AC87x platform and the Quantenna chipset in particular just yet. When the final MU-MIMO standard is adopted, next July IIRC, then I expect the Wave 2 technology to begin to reach its potential. At least I hope it does. :)

Probably before that, you will see it working already on ALL new unreleased models with support MU-MIMO. :)

No sir, I already have an AC87R & an AC87U. I do not need a third. ;)

Keep in mind there is really not refurbished routers. They really don't go in and replace parts. They are just retested returns and put back out for sale.

Agreed. HGGomes has the right take IMO in post #4 above. The Quantenna chipset is a red herring no doubt but its performance is great, if you can find its sweet spot. I am currently running a refurb AC87U from NewEgg. After about 36 hours (my AC87R had an undesirable reaction to a power outage) this refurbished AC87U is doing great! Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed...

According to the WiFi utility for my TrendNet TEW-805UB adpater the 5GHz SSID's signal is STRONGER than that of the 2.4GHz SSID! Granted I have beamforming enabled for the 5GHz band only but if it can do this well with an AC1200 client I can't wait for a MU-MIMO client! :D
