Checking traffic in script

New Around Here
Hello all,

I recently moved from DD-WRT to Asuswrt-Merlin after a painful (and ultimately failed) attempt to upgrade of DD-WRT. I've been pleasantly surprised with Asuswrt-Merlin and I'm extremely happy with the move... a silver lining to my DD-WRT experience I guess.

Anyhow, with DD-WRT I had set up a script that would e-mail me a summary of WAN traffic/usage on a daily basis. I used these e-mails to help me manage my ISP bandwidth caps. Please refer to: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Useful_Scripts#Email_Bandwidth_Usage_Daily

With help from the forums, I've been able to figure out scripting basics, cron, and sending e-mails. The last piece is how to pull traffic/usage stats from the command line or a script.

Has anyone written a script to do this already? If not, can someone please let me know how I would go about getting traffic/usage stats.

Thanks!
