Yes they can. You would just need to set one as the repeater in the software and have it connect to the main router. Asus has made this pretty easy. IYou will get better performance if you could set one router up as media bridge or access point. Hopefully you will have better luck with the 87Rs than I did but my problems were just related to variations in the 5Ghz channel.

But when I looked up the manual it did in fact only mention the media bridge and access point modes not the repeater mode. You can look in Wireless/Bridge or WDS and you may be able to set it up as a repeater there
