D-Link DIR-100

quagmire

New Around Here
My ISP has recently upgraded the speed of my internet connection from 15 MBit to 30 MBit....

Long story short, I found out that the router I currently have (a 6/7 year old SMC VBR7004) simply cannot handle WAN-LAN throughput speeds of more than 7 MBit or so (even less with the firewall turned on)...

Now I 'm looking to buy a new (wired) router that can give me the full speed of my internet connection.

After some surfing the D-Link DIR-100 caught my eye...

I have been trying to find information about this model here on smallnetbuilders but I couldn't find it using the search funtion, of in the router performance charts...

In fact, there was only one place on the internet I found information regarding the real-world WAN-LAN throughput of this device:

http://foliovision.com/2010/01/29/backup-router-d-link-dir-100-vs-zyxel-prestige-334

The author of the page claims to have gotten a download speed of just over 31MBit on a 3 Megabyte/Sec line.... (Which I guess is about 30MBit?)

However this was with standard settings......

I would like to have a firewall enabled on the router while surfing. Now I was wondering whether anyone here knows if there is going to be a lot of speed loss on this router with the firewall (and other security features?) turned on.

Also, I woul like to know if anyone has some sort of idea what the fastest connection is that this router can handle....

I need it for use with a 30MBit connection (Which I suppose would be no problem???), but would it still be good if my connection was upgraded to 40 or 50 MBit?

So I guess what I'm saying is, does anyone have real-world experience with the performance of this model? Because there is very little to be found about it. Thanks a lot!

Why are you zeroed in on the DIR-100, when there are plenty of other routers out there that can handle your needs? It's discontinued anyway.

DIR-100 was good, but you have so many routers today. Better speed and quad the RAM (64MB total) Dual 16=32MB routers are okay.
