I got this router from ebay and suspect probably a faulty. Appreciate if anyone can confirm pls.

1) No lights ON for any of 2.4/5Ghz wireless
2) Getting "Unidentified Network" and "No network Access". Changed cables, tried on another desktop and laptop, all same.
3) Even put CD that came with router for setup but again, coming up with msg " unable to detect wired connection".
4) Tried Reset button and WPS HOLD + Power.

Hi,
If I were you, I'd reflash the router with f/w of your choice.
Good luck.

No Lights

If the previous owner of the router was running Merlin's firmware it has the option to stealth the lights (turn off ) . You need to do a factory reset of the router and see if you can get it going. If not work out a return with the seller.

4) Tried Reset button and WPS HOLD + Power.

Are you getting the slow flashing light? (that implies its in recovery mode and ready to receive the firmware via TFTP using the recovery utility)

To get it into recovery mode;

1. First, unplug the power core (DC IN) of Wireless Router.
2. Next, long-press the button “RESTORE” (about 5 seconds) and plug in DC IN behind the Wireless Router.
3. If the power is flashing-slow, the wireless router is in rescue mode.

Here is a video that walks you through it. The recovery util is on the CD or you can download it from the ASUS site.

If you can't get it into recovery mode, then its probably dead Jim.

thanks all. When at manual static IP, I can get to Asus firmware upgrade page. Uploads fine it seems but then when it says "it'll reboot...." which it never does. Anyway after manual reboot is still same. So either FW was not reflashed or it had but faulty router. Either way, I'll see if I can get any time before sending back to seller.

You have to wait at least 10 minutes after the message "it will reboot...".
I could not get mn new N66U from Amazon up and running when I tried Asus
own f/w , Merlins f/w but when I tried the TomatoUSB Shibby I got it up and running. At least I saved the return postage to Amazon.

Yes tomato FW installs fine and wifi is now visible. But problem is I'm not getting any internet. PPoE details are fine. For some reason trying to install asus or merlin FW's are failing.

BTW internet is from Plusnet FTTc.

It's possible that it's not compatible with plusnet. You may have to try firmware 370. But even then, it may not be compatible. Most linksys routers aren't compatible with plusnet PPPoE either.

Finally!!!!!!!! wasted my nice sunny saturday which I bet will defo wouldn't last here.

If helps anyone trying to reflash Asus FW after usual tries of NVRAM clear etc.
Power Off, Hold WPS and Power On until "fast" flashing power light.
Keep holding WPS and press the reset button.
Keep holding reset button and release the WPS.
Release the reset and continue with flash utility.

As for Plusnet, need to logon to provided technicolor router and "disconnect" the internet.

Thanks all.
