defrag ext4?

I have a Synology DS111 that runs many functions. Over time performance of it has come to a crawl, it's obvious it's simply fragmentation. I inquired over at Synology and keep getting that fat and ntfs file systems are crap, but ext3 and ext4 are so superior they never fragment. However, they recommend wiping the Synology and copying everything back over fresh so all the blocks are assigned at once and together. Ridiculous... I see there is an e4defrag, but I'm sure that would have to be compiled for Synology? Any ideas?
