Does Merlin's firmware make the RT-AC68U, have faster download speeds?

I'm asking since on my old EA4500 router I would get 40-42mbps down on the 2.4ghz band. On my new one I'm getting around 30-36mbps down, though some other times I get 40+.

My point is will I get and increase I'm speed by using Merlin, or do I need to do something else?

I also have a new modem too, a Motorola Surfboard SB6141.

I doubt it, but it depends where your throughput bottle-neck is happening.

Just to be sure, you are talking about megabits, not megabytes, yes?

Megabits yes.

I would read all the wifi trouble-shooting posts I could find, because your speed does seem quite slow. Through 1-2 walls and ~30ft, the default wifi settings on my RT-N66U give my Nexus 7 (2012) ~40mbit and my PCs get ~80-100mbit with some 2x2 wifi adapters.

Good luck. :)
