First I know there is better options out there but I like the drobo product.
I have a Drobo 5n that works really well for me, I use it mostly to house all my media. A mac mini acts as a plex server and I use some Rokus to steam the media and this has worked flawlessly. I also use it as a backup source and I am running out of space. I want to upgrade to the 800i or 800fs but I don't exactly know the difference. One is a SAN and one is a NAS which are better for my application? Are either better or worse for performance?
