Dynamic DNS on 2nd router

I have 2 routers. 1st one is directly connected to the modem and it gets its WAN IP from ISP. 2nd router is connected to the 1st one in a DMZ configuration. For this I had to define a static IP as it's WAN IP. Now if I use dynamic DNS, my router updated the dynamic DNS site with the static WAN IP I configured. Is there a way to configure dynamic DNS on the 2nd router that it sends the address provided by the ISP?

depends on the router. in routerOS theres a script for it but for consumer routers there isnt. The script is simple, you check your ip with a website and save the information than update that ip with dyndns.

might be easier to use the feature with the first router instead

It's a consumer router (Asus AC-RT68U). Maybe I'll have to look into scripts that can do it for me using the computer or on the Asus router. Thanks for the response.

Most DDNS platforms - they'll update the public IP to the domain... so it doesn't matter where the client actually lives - I run my DynDNS client on one of my desktops inside the LAN, not on the router...

Where it might get complicated is when one has multiple domains and VPN connections, but this is a complication that most folks should avoid, and perhaps out of scope for SNB...

I know for sure Asus routers (Stock and Merlin) and DD-WRT don't operate as you mentioned. Instead of running curl or some other command to get the WAN IP, they are just getting it from what is configured on the router. It could be because I am configuring my WAN IP as Static.
