Extremely slow VPN Server transfer speeds even on AES-NI supported RT-AC86U. Out of ideas, please help.

Well, I did some further testing from a windows laptop from another, external 100/100 Mbit network against my own 300/10 Mbit home internet, and I saw some improvements when using a windows laptop as a PPTP client (less encryption work for the cpu to work with in theory, and on the 'send files to home router' I reached at most 40-50 Mbit, and downloading files from the home router to the laptop gave the expected 12~ Mbit. I didn't have time to test openvpn protocol but I reckon the speeds would be the same at most since openvpn is single threaded and uses stronger encryption than PPTP.
Thoughts?
