factory reset to ensure all the latest security enhancements are properly applied???????????

Hi, I also updated to this firmware and no WiFi clients could connect to the node anymore. Cable worked fine

I am using the RT-AX57 as an aimesh node from an RT-AX88U with a wired backbone. Wireless clients could still connect with the ax88u no prob.

I tried full resets as per the Asus instructions etc ..but the ax57 WiFi only worked again after I downgraded to the previous firmware.

Have Asus borked the firmware?

I have updated with this firmware one RT-AX57 and two RT-AX55 all used in AP mode. Main router is RT-AX82U. Everything works fine WITHOUT doing any reset.

@tiomiguel hmm... but you don't use Aimesh.. I never tried my AX57 not as a node.. but @laxfunctor didn't get the firmware to work either.
I couldn't get wireless clients to connect, even with WPS or direct with the password... perhaps they have messed with the encryption...
Are you using WPA2-Personal for the Wi-Fi encryption or something else ?

I also find it odd with this update that on the website it specifically states
"We recommend updating to this firmware version and performing a factory reset to ensure all the latest security enhancements are properly applied." (link)
It's also in bold red letters... it doesn't do this for any other firmware I looked up for on the website... so careful perhaps you don't have it fully applied.

I use WPA2 personal.
Perhaps changes are not fully applied for my RT-AX57 but is in AP mode no main router...
YYes they are in red, for so I posted this thread

At the end I made reset in Ap,s and restored AP configuration easily via WIFI connection... No working changes detected.

Discussion about same problem on Asus ROG Forum here
I have contected Asus Technical support and they told me, that nobody reported any issues with ASUS RT-AX57 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386_53244

Asus support send me beta _53266. Now clients are connecting to node again. It is still beta, maybe more fixes will follow.

OK, so they recommend a reset. Big deal! They upgrade thousands of their routers via automatic upgrade which never get reset and reconfigured and those routers work perfectly well. So, their recommendation is a bunch of hot air and you, deep in your heart, know that. It is the real world and not one that is micro managed by a dedicated technician or knowledgeable hobbyist.
A good advice!!

The RT-AX86U has a problem. It started with the OpenVPN DNS-leak (ExpressVPN).

To solve this, I have reset the router with “Administration – Restore to Factory default” and

“ Hard Factory reset” (WPS).

No success at the moment, and I have changed firmware from 3004.388.9_2 to 3004.388.8_4.

In “Administration – System” the “Login Name” and password can change.

This time the login name change is blocked.

This has happened before with both login name and password. It has been fixed with a reset or new firmware.

Router Login Name sandbrik Change

Router Login Password - Change

This time I can't "clean" the router.
Do I have real problem?

Regards

It is a known issue with the AX86U that a Hard Factory Reset does not always clear all the settings. My old router was like this and a reset with initialize was always used. If you are having issues with Merlin firmware I recommend using Asus firmware.

Thank you for the information and the advice!

Yesterday I installed the Asus firmware, but the problem was the same.

When installing the firmware, the login name is no problem. When I try to change this in Administration – System, the name (name show) cannot change.

For the moment, is there any security risk with my RT-AX86U?

If not, is there a reason I have trouble with DNS-leaks?

If I buy a new Asus router, can you give advice in that matter?

Regards

Hre is last firmware for RT-AX55/57

I have three in AP mode. Have I to perform a factory rest??? Is not enough updating the firmware?
Because I have them in floor connected at WAN wired. If I perform a factory reset I am not able to access them by wan connection.

We recommend updating to this firmware version and performing a factory reset to ensure all the latest security enhancements are properly applied.

-Improved login password policy with a new minimum requirement of 10 characters, strengthening overall access security.
-Reinforced communication protocols between the mobile app and the router firmware to ensure more secure interactions.
-Optimized system stability for more consistent and reliable performance.
-Enhanced validation during parameter transmission to improve configuration integrity.
-Optimized routing stability under specific network conditions.
-Implemented security improvements for Dropbear.
I came here exactly for this ... I have 3 RT-AX86U and it will be quiet effort to factory reset all of them although my wifi key and admin pwd are 20 characters mix symbols and number and low and high cap.

Let strike lottery with this update at this time Kakaka! Factory reset after the update Oh MY LoL
