New Around Here
On my RT-AX86U I've set LAN -> LAN IP -> Host Name to "gate".
When accessing the web interface via http://gate and updating the firmware via Administration -> Firmware Upgrade -> Upload, the following happens: the "Applying settings..." popup appears, the router reboots, and the firmware is still the old one; no errors or hints in the logs.
When accessing the web interface via http://router.asus.com and doing the same, the following happens: the "Applying settings..." popup appears, the "Updating firmware..." popup appears, the router reboots, and the firmware has been successfully updated.
Took me a while to figure this out. Not sure whether it's a bug, known issue, or intended behavior. I didn't find anything about this hostname issue in the forums so far, so... uhm.. well, if it's news, now you know.
