Flashing from Shibby Tomato to Merlin on RT-AC68U

What is the proper procedure for flashing from Shibby Tomato to Merlin? Can I just do it from the "upgrade" section of the tomato firmware or do I need to do a recovery flash with the firmware restoration utility?

use firmware restoration utility then reset after flashing
