Occasional Visitor
Hello everyone, I have just joined this forum as I have recently purchased a RT-AX86U pro.
I have installed Merlin, Diversion, Skynet and Flexqos.

I have spent a few days trying to get the best settings in Flexqos, but being a little green in this area, I was just wanting opinions/guidance.

I am in Australia so I only have a FTTP with 100mb d/l and 20 U/L. My wife works from home, We do a bit of streaming, have a VOIP phone and then downloading and surfing in general. We do NOT play games at all.

Given the above, I have attached a screenshot of the settings in FlexQOS. I was hoping someone could look at it and if it seems ok, given the above info.

Welcome to the forums...the default setup should work well. However, recommend you move Learn-from-home towards the bottom.

Thank you... I will have a good look at the links.

I have installed Merlin, Diversion, Skynet and Flexqos.

My general recommendations for new Asus router users:
- don't replace the original firmware right away, test your new device first the way Asus made it to work
- don't replace original firmware for no good reason (custom scripts and advanced VPN configurations)
- don't install scripts because someone else is using scripts and don't copy someone else's configuration
- don't install scripts before you know what they do and how, make sure you need them for your use case
- don't install anything you can't support and troubleshoot yourself, you are the sysadmin of your network
- don't attempt fixing currently non-existing issues (do you have any bandwidth or latency issues?)
- don't use USB sticks, your router becomes as reliable as the USB stick (and they fail quite often)
- don't overcomplicate things, go simple and your quality of life will be better, network users will be happier

About what you have installed already:
- Asuswrt-Merlin is fine, but most stable in vanilla version without any custom scripts and USB sticks
- Diversion can be replaced with upstream ad-blocking DNS service like AdGuard, preset included in firmware
- Skynet is mostly useful if you want to limit your own access to specific IP addresses, otherwise does very little
- With your FTTP ISP simple Bandwidth Limiter may be good enough, if needed at all, included in firmware

thanks so much. Very helpful advice for a newbie. I will have a look if i can setup Diversion with Adblocking. I think I had seen this before. I will spend some more time getting acquainted with it all. Thanks again. Its easy to get over excited when you get a router that can do so much more than connect you to the internet and you(I) spend so much time trying to make things better without really knowing what you are doing....Very sound advice.

Just don't treat the new router as your personal toy. This will cause service disruptions and other people using the network won't be happy. Start with clean Asuswrt-Merlin if this is your firmware choice, use DNS Director with AdGuard DNS for devices needing ad-blocking (ask first, don't enforce your personal choices), use the built-in Cake QoS, but only if really needed. When you make changes ask your family members if everything is working as expected. The more things you block the greater the chance you'll break something.

You're dead right. Yesterday I was changing stuff and kept rebooting until my wife screamed at me cause she kept loosing connection whilst working from home. I need to just set and forget until something is wrong.
