Forum ads

The ads that I get here (on the desktop version of the site) are typically about trucks, shopping, Wifi, and Internet (I regularly get an ad for Ebox, which is already my current ISP). I just saw ads for Lego, which are also quite on brand for "tech geeks". Nothing unexpected or abnormally out of place.

There are malwares that can intercept and replace ads BTW. If people get weird ads on their mobile devices, time to review that device.

Just an opinion.....

If there are too many ads, then everyone will run an ad blocker, then there will be no revenue?

Wouldn't it be the same or better to have minimal ads (maybe for logged in users) and suggest/request that they don't run ad blockers (or allow the site to display ads through the blocker)?

I run an ad blocker so I don't see ads here or elsewhere, but would happily allow ads if they were not too intrusive and to help support the site.

I don’t really have an issue with the specific ads that show up but with how invasive they are. Did some more tryouts and see one specific Walmart ad ONLY when browsing your subgroup and more specifically the latest firmware topic - Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.5 is now available.

Coincident or on purpose … not really sure but it’s quite invasive and annoying. Btw that’s on my home network with a private NordVPN IP running on safari.
Take a look at the screen capture I uploaded and somebody tell me how this is okay?!?
I don’t see this add anywhere else - regardless if I’m looking at the main site or other discussions.

I have posted example pictures of 18+ ads, but deleted the posts. If someone wants to see bikini pictures - links available on SNB Forums. This is bad indeed. Men’s underwear ads show up too.

There’s a huge Walmart ad covering the entire screen when scrolling up and down a thread where the next page buttons are. It load every time you open the new firmware version topic in Merlin’s subforum. On top of the other adds at the top and bottom and middle.

Yes, and this full page 'slider?' ad corrupts the page content on my mobile... the most recent post(s) and next page controls are lost to the user... I only saw them re-appear once after putzing around with it.

This point shouldn’t be lost among all the complaining.

Yep, a little more of these and the revenue will go higher.

Just browsing around... will check the new content later.

@thiggins, you may not see the ads above for various reasons. How to reproduce relatively quickly:

A PC with no advertising ID, clean browser cache, Incognito window, view as guest not logged in. Online gambling, bikini photos, "random name" new partner, what happened to "random name" son/daughter, etc. crap starts coming in fast and seems like from the same advertiser. This specific one is bad and you may want to look at it. @OzarkEdge had a thread about this some time ago.

I also see travel, vacations, banks, communications, stores, job sites, software, hardware, AI... they are all okay. Ads like the examples above are not okay if there are kids in the room. We don't have to hide SNB Forums screen when checking for new tech related content. Hope you understand the concern. As I said - I know why we have ads. I just don't know why we need to have the ones above.
