GT-BE98 Asus Merlin

New Around Here
Hi, I can't see a firmware download for the GT-BE98, can you use the GT-BE98-Pro firmware or isn't there one for the non pro version, Cheers

Merlin don't support the GT-BE98. However Gnuton does a fork of Merlin firmware and he does support the GT-BE98. Link below.

Gnuton is several month delayed with new updates, I hope he cache up soon
Indeed, around 3 Asus firmware updates out of date so far. I believe the issue is that he has had some personal stuff going on that he reported on github forum, so naturally was concentrating on that...

Okay, understandable, and more important of cause. I hope he will get it solved

Posting from my GitHub discussion for info to those not on Github:

3006.102.4_1-gnuton0_beta1 has fixed quite a few things for me, and updated my original comments posted above.
Wasn't sure if this update was serious at first, because not listed on main front page under BE98 Testing, and release notes just say "GTBe98 added".

  • OFDM for WifiAX works better in this release as Now TV does not breakup randomly with this option set (whether Download DL Only or any other option). It also gives much better results on speedtest.net with their "quality" indicators for latency. Broadcom must have done something in this build for WiFi, whether newer drivers or whatever.
  • DNS Over TLS now works in VLANS when set to Router in DNS Director instead of having to use another pre-set option.
  • DHCP reservations can now set in VLANS (up to 32). Could always do this for main networks, but not VLAN's with different DHCP IP.
  • 64 MAC address devices can be set for an SSID (including an IoT defined SSID)
  • Mixed WPA2/WPA3 now works with Smart TVs that are only WPA2, and they can now connect to an SSID with mixed WPA2/WPA3 set.

SSH Add-ins I use like Diversion for Ad blocking, LED Timer, MerlinAU all work fine after upgrade. I am on the latest versions of them and AMTM and Entware at time of writing on 06/06/25.

Bugs:
Wireless Log: Devices registered to 5Ghz-2 only, show under section heading of "Wireless 5Ghz-1"
Temperatures in system info not working and blank table.
Wireless Professional Settings page still does not resize when viewed on mobile device like a phone (Edge Browser).

Having a strange issue with my VPN, have setup a wireguard server on the router so my mobile devices can connect back to the router when I'm out and about and I can access the local devices and surf the net using the router Adblock etc. After this update, am unable to surf the net anymore on my mobile devices when using VPN. I can connect to the router, see local devices, but cannot surf the net. Other than this firmware update, nothing else has changed. Haven't really troubleshoot much, will probably delete the VPN config and retry but just posting here in case anyone else having the same issue.
