Guest LAN (not only wLAN) on AC66?

Hi All,

I am running Merlin's code on my AC66U. So far, I happily used a number of cool features, including a guest wlan for potential visitors.
Today, I need something a bit more complex, as I work from home and have often colleagues visit me that need to connect to the net.
I would like to have 2 or 3 separate LANs (Home / Work / Guests) that the AC66 can easily do with "guest wireless" but with additional requirements :
- share a printer between all LANs
- have wired connections for both the work and home LANs
- I also would like to be able to VPN in both the Home and Work networks from the outside world but this is a nice to have.

This leads to several questions :
- can I -realistically- do this with the AC66? Or shall I start looking a something beyond the consumer market?
- shall I use 2 separate routers?
- I somewhat guess it is possible by using Vlans/routing in command line on the AC66, but is it still time well invested compared to switching platforms?

I would tend to think it is going to be time to change. Some other elements will trigger this over time : move to Gb WAN in less than a year, need to improve WiFi coverage with several APs...

it's possible through the CLI but requires good knowledge. I suggest getting a managed switch and set up VLANs there

I got a Netgear swith that can handle VLANs so this is a potential way to do things but will I be able to match it to the "Guest wireless network" on the router? I wonder how this is implemented on the router side, btw. I need to dig that up.

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK on consumer routers the Guest network is actually a separate VLAN

Not on all consumer routers.
