Hardening Asus Merlin built in OpenVPN server

Occasional Visitor
Hi there
I've set up the built in OpenVPN server on my Asus Merlin router and I'm wondering if there's a need or a way to harden its security somehow.
Up to this point I've been using it to remotely access my home network and my Jellyfin server but since I'll be going on a trip soon and will be using public wifi quite a lot, I'd like to make sure that no one would be able to skim my data.
Would the default configuration be enough or is there a need to do anything else?
Thank you!

Use a port above the registered range, for one.
