Connecting a device via LAN to a VLAN network

I have an RT-BE88U router with an AiMesh RT-AX68U node connected to it via Ethernet. The RT-BE88U has a professional guest network set up at 192.168.52.1. While connecting devices to this network over Wi-Fi works fine, I’m trying to figure out how to connect a device to it via Ethernet through the RT-AX68U. I need to assign a static IP address, but I’m not sure where to configure it.

This feature is not supported on RT-AX68U. Devices with Guest Network Pro support only.

@Tech9 is correct.

A cheapish alternative is to attach a cheap smart managed switch to your e.g. a node TL-SG105E or Netgear GS305E alternative, rather than invest in a GNP node that supports VLAN to Ethernet ports.

Some of us have had issues with the TP-link possibly destabilizing the mesh clients (@visortgw) others (@Seth Harman) no issues.

I have had issues (documented in this forum) with a mesh node that supports GNP AND VLANs (see below,ie) causing client dropouts, so I disabled that VLAN to node Ethernet port capability until hopefully the next round of FW updates.

It seems that the RT-AX68U, when used as a node, only supports connecting to a professional guest network through Wi-Fi?
That does not sound correct. If you attach it via Ethernet it will connect to your GNP router just fine, is the preferred backbone mechanism and the main router will propagate the guest network to the node, with caveats on interfaces per bands. Ethernet is much preferred as it frees up the Wi-Fi for exclusive use by clients.

Forgive my poor English (I speak another language). What I meant was something else: I can connect the device I need to a professional guest network configured on the RT-BE88U via the RT-AX68U node's Wi-Fi. In this case, the professional guest network runs on the RT-AX68U node. The RT-BE88U and RT-AX68U are connected via Ethernet.

No problem at all. Unfortunately I am not sure I follow what you mean here.

I think you mean this:
  • Main RT-BE88U propagates Guest Network to RT-AX68U via Ethernet backhaul?
  • Client device connects just fine to the Guest Network via RT-AX68U Wi-Fi?
  • That same Client device has an Ethernet Port that you want to attach to the node and have it connect to the Guest network? As above this is only possible on VLAN capable nodes.
  • You could however use the VLAN capability of the main router and attach the client device via an Ethernet port on your main, and then select VLAN access mode in the VLAN settings. This is not possible on your current node.
k.

Yes, Wi-Fi only and limited number of networks. It has limited compatibility to GNP main router.

I can't physically do this: the client device is far away from the RT-BE88U. It's located next to the RT-AX68U and is currently connected to it via Wi-Fi.
Yes, Wi-Fi only and limited number of networks.
Thank you, now I understand.
