HD Streaming Router

Zalophus

New to SNB and to Networking.
Up to now 1.5Mbps DSL has worked fine for me.

Now I will be streaming HD to HDTV/BR, and adding second PC (both PCs have 10/100/1000).

New setup as follows:
*ISP 12Mbps Down
*DOCIS 3.0 Cable Modem
*D-Link DGS-2205 Gigabit Switch
*All devices hardwired with Cat5e

After research, I think, for best performance, I need n Router with Gigabit Ports; I don't think I need Dual Band (auto or select).

Confirmation/opinions/suggestions most welcome.

Thanks

HD streaming works fine over 100 Mbps Ethernet. Trouble-free HD streaming via wireless depends on video bit rate and buffering in player.

In theory, since you already have a gigabit switch, so any traffic on your LAN (assuming everything is plugged into the switch), wouldn't hit that router unless it is going out to the internet. In that case, gig ports don't matter, as the bottleneck is the internet link.

I stream from my DNS-323 over my network with my DGS-1024D switch, doesn't hit the router at all, so it doesn't matter that the router is 10/100.
