Help on router upgrade

evnsh

New Around Here
Please forgive me for my poor English...

I am a complete noob on networking
I've been using my DIR 615 for more than 2 yrs and it has been running properly, at least it does wt I need...

Recently I bought a Buffalo Linkstation 1TB NAS, mainly for file sharing and torrenting, and another user ( using a laptop connecting on wireless) starts watching streamed videos from the internet.

After the changes, when I played Bad Company 2 on my PC, it suffered some packet loss problem, which never happened before... My friend who was in the same server didn't have the problem, as we use the same ISP and same package, I thought that should be my router's problem.

Does it help by upgrading to another router, or I should build one?
My budget is about $120, I don't think I can have a perfect solution within the budget,
I think Gaming and Torrenting will have the highest priority, and I think I need 1 set of Gigabit Lan ports for faster file transfer among the PCs.

Here are some information that maybe helpful:
my WAN package:
30Mbps download, 10Mbps download ADSL

Thanks!

If you are not using the NAS at the same time, I don't think it has anything to do with your problem.

Did you both watch Internet video and play the online game at the same time before you added the Linkstation? Did you have the same problem?

actually the NAS was added the same day that the user ( my dad) started watching videos...
so I can't get a comparison, but I did try watch some youtube video from another laptop when I play games before, there wasn't such problem...
also, when I was playing BC2, the NAS shouldn't be working under stress, no files were transferred in or out, and just downloading a Torrent with less than 10seeds and 15peers, @ the speed of about 3x kB/s download and 1xxkB/s upload

It all depends on the quality / bandwidth of the videos. YouTube videos can be very low resolution. Try a 720p or HD quality one.

This has nothing to do with the NAS unless it is being accessed wirelessly at the same time as the other activity.

OK, thanks,
but my dad is using some kind of software accelerator for his video streaming,
I don't know if this affects the whole thing or not,
btw, my is most likely to be my problem ?
thanks
