Help with Data & VOIP VLAN config

Sojo

New Around Here
Hi,
Hoping I might get steered in the right direction....

I am a one man band cable installer and have been asked to supply a switch for Data and VOIP. I have gone for the 24 port Netgear GS724T-400 and need a little guidance on how to configure it for two separate vlans, one for data and one for voip. The customer has two adsl routers with two separate lines, one for internet and one for voice.

I now need to have two uplinks to the one switch (one for Data and one for VOIP). I know both data and voip could exist on the one port/vlan but the customer wants to keep them separate.

So the first question is can I configure the Switch for two uplinks, say one for ports 1-12 (data) and one for ports 13-24 (voice) from the two routers and have two separate lans.

Thanks for any help...
Sojo

You might not have to do much to achieve that. According to their site, that supports protocol based auto VLANs. Dig through the manual, it might be easier than you think.

In any case you should be able to do what you are looking for, split the switch up per VLAN.

Adding in the protocol based auto vlan, you should not have to keep track of what port is used for voice.

OK your switch comes with a default VLAN already set up. If I were you I would use the default VLAN for your Data and create a second VLAN for your VOIP. If you go to Switching-VLAN-Basic-VLAN-Configuration in your switch you can add your VOIP vlan there. Then go to VLAN Membership and configure which ports you want to assign to each VLAN. Then you are done. As Sojo said your switch does seem to support some Auto vlan, but I don't know how that works as I always do mine manually.
