How to forward ports? 380.57 / AC3200

Hi

I am using an Asus RT-AC3200 with Asuswrt Merlin 380.57 .
It is connected to a Modem (not another router)
I have disabled software firewall on the client. Windows Firewall is also disabled.

My Firewall on the router is enabled, IPv6 Firewall is disabled.

I went to 192.168.1.1, WAN, Virtual Server / Port Forwarding.
Entered the port number I wish to forward in the port range and in the local port. Selected both UDP and TCP.
I selected the client I wish to open it for. Press add
and Apply.
The port is on the Port Forwarding List.

However when i check if the port is open using one of the online services, it does not work.

Any sugestions?

Is the modem 'full bridge' - does the Asus get a real internet WAN IP address? When testing did you have any service on those ports running?

Two things to check;
1) The port forwarding won't show as working unless there is a server listening on that port number.
2) Make sure you have chosen "TCP" and not "TCP ALL".

Hi mstombs
The modem is only a modem, i dont think it even has a control panel
the Asus does get the real WAN IP.
I did not have any service on the port running when testing.

1) I am not sure what you mean by number 1
2) do you mean instead of selecting BOTH(TCP&UDP) I should only select TCP?

Sorry, ignore point 2) I was thinking of the "Network Services Filter". Pretend I never said that. :)

1) Even if you have set up a port forwarding rule you need to have something on your network listening on that port (web server, ftp server, etc) otherwise it won't show as open when you do your online test.

THanks i Understand now.
The software is listening to that port
But it is still not working.
I even put the client on DMZ and it still does not find the port to be open

Well it should work then. There's nothing particularly difficult about this kind of setup.

Without going into the specifics of your setup I can only think of 2 other possible problems;
1) There is a problem with your server configuration.
2) You are using a port that is blocked by your ISP, i.e. HTTP, SMTP, etc.
