How to install Merlin on a virtual host and using it as a soft router?

There are quiet a lot soft router OSes like openwrt and koolshare that could be installed on a virtual host or x86-x64 machine, I wonder if Merlin could be capable of that?
 
Not possible. Each firmware images is tightly tied to a specific router model's hardware.
 
And using Merlin on any device other than ASUS is illegal, you should read the sticky posts in the Merlin forum.
