I cannot connect to the internet when plugged into my modem (No router). Why?

The modem is an Arris SB6183. I read elsewhere that it should be possible, but I am not picking up any internet when I try to use the attached computer. I am doing this to troubleshoot packetloss problems.

what is your PC IP address ?
Is it in the 192.168.100.2+ address range ?

Can you get to the config page at 192.168.100.1 ?

What works for me:
1. Power down the PC the plug it directly into the modem.
2. Power down the modem which in the case of the 6183 means unplugging it.
3. After the modem has been unplugged for a ten count plug it back in.
4. Once the modem is back on line and synched turn on the PC, be patient as the PC adapter may need a few seconds to pull an AP and connect to the Internet.

That's because your ISP won't give you a second DHCP lease, as there is currently a lease still associated with your router's MAC address.

Power off your modem for about 10 minutes, then try again.
