I really miss Amazon Prime Day 2019. Because...

I was half-listening to an LTT Livestream today while working. They were trying to shop for Amazon Prime deals. They were right about one thing: most of the so-called deals these days are actually misleading.

(and yes, Amazon's own search engine is the worst useless piece of junk I have ever seen)

People should check price history with a service like https://camelcamelcamel.com before jumping on a "good Amazon deal". Highly recommended site for frequent Amazon shoppers.

I've been doing CCC lookups for histories and only hitting buy on 20% or higher markdowns. It doesn't make sense if it was bumped up in price to show a higher markdown. Only targeting things on my lists for an extended period of time where I've been tracking prices already. My targets are tech so they fluctuate a little and it's easy to spot a true deal. I'm leaving some stuff in the cart though waiting on those free Amazon dollars dto be credited towards them.

For instance https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09N3PRJZK/?tag=snbforums-20
Reg $99.99 / regularly offering $10 off / PD markdown to $79.99 / $5 less than lowest price

I use camel. But it's not accurate. It doesn't reflect downed price many times these days. So I put a lot of items in my cart like Tech Junky.

I have hundreds items in my cart. I do like you. :D

I make lists and track them there though most of the time since it's easier than putting them in/out of the cart to make a purchase and also not technical info on the device I'm stalking. I've also taken up a new skill to check lowest price including used aka returns.

For instance this URL syntax works for most items - https://www. amazon.com/dp/B07KY73BNQ/ref=olp-opf-redir?aod=1&ie=UTF8&condition=ALL
Just need to change the ID which also works quick for CCC lookups.

Things that tend to be a PITA like cables with different speeds / charging / etc. Are handy to keep in a list format with the specs / speeds to quickly see what they're going for when you need a replacement or watching new tech like the new 240W cables coming out. Updating specs when vendors change listings to reflect new info for things I've already got / use. Tracking the purchase price to see if a "deal" is actually a deal.
