Internet drops whenever someone in range connects to it

As the titles says, whenever someone in range connects to the internet, it seems to disconnect for about 30ish seconds and then come back online. I tried changing firmwares and factory reset, but that does not seem to fix it. Anyone able to figure out why and help me fix it.

it usually happens, since with WIFI the device tends to consume more bandwidth and usually, the device starts to update. hence you face a lag initially. to stop that from happening, you need to have a fiber optic cable and a good router

It may help to tell what router type and what firmware you have tried.
The default starting point is:

1. If there are, disconnect all USB devices.
2. Install the latest available firmware version.
3. Reset to factory defaults.
4. Do not load an old configuration backup file.
5. Manual configure the router with the bare minimum, as:
   1. Router Login Name.
   2. Router Login Password.
   3. WAN Connection Type, and what is required to connect to the Internet.
   4. Wireless SSID's and WPA Pre-Shared Key's.
   5. Leave everything else default.
6. Test the router behavior:
   1. Test with a wired connection first.
   2. Test with a wireless connection.

Sorry, the router is a ASUS AC68U with merlin latest firmware 386_5.

I've done everything you listed. Tried multiple firmwares and even the latest one, but it seems to still happen.

To be clear, the listed steps 1 to 5 shall be done right after an other before you start testing as step 6.
And be repeated every time you select another firmware version.
What is your WAN Connection Type?
