Is It a Brick - AC68U

SnyderTalon

New Around Here
So I picked up one of the rebranded AC68U's that were sold as T-Mobile Hotspots. I successfully reverted it back to the default Asus firmware. I upgraded to Shibby's Tomato USB 138. My speeds were crap. Like transfer in the kilibyte range while in the same room about 20ft from the router crap. I posted in a Tomato forum and they said 138 was unstable, try installing 137. I wasn't able to get it to install. I could get into recovery fine and upload without issue, but every time the router rebooted it showed I was still using 138. I decided to try Merlin. So I put it in recovery mode and installed 380.64_0. Now the only two lights I get are power and Lan.

I've tried:
- several runs with the Asus restoration utility trying Asus FW, Tomato, and Merlin
the process gets to 98% and states "Failed to recover the system." I've tried waiting my whole 10 hour day at work to give it time to recover.
- several 30/30/30, thought some say this is worthless and others say this fixed their problem
- a handful of NVRAM wipes via WPS hold down
- tried CFE web browser a few times with Asus and Merlin. It would upload without issue, but would not reboot into function.
I had to follow instructions from the interwebz to get into CFE. I cannot find them right now. If you suggest CFE, would you mind telling me the instructions as well. I thought it was 1) load 192.168.1.1 in browser. 2) wait for refresh symbol to spin 3) reboot router while holding down WPS button. For clarification, I could do it before with some deep google searching instructions but not now from memory.

Some weird things it is doing are when I connect to CFE, it only works with 192.168.1.1. Windows networking detects it as the network name I had set up when it installed tomato. I.e., it is getting some sort of information from it. The restoration utility only works when I "obtain IP address automatically."

Thanks in advance
