language issue with ASUs rt-ac 68u

Hi I have all the lights Woking on on this router but yesterday it switched connection to original setting this is hard wired to sr 102 .I tried to reset with wps button but when disc was used language could not be changed from Japanese

Also, what firmware you're using, and what exactly happened right up until you had a problem would be helpful.

If the problem is just language then you can change it in the top-right corner (if using Asus or Merlin firmware). If the word "English" is written in Japanese/Chinese then keep trying and you will eventually get to something you recognize, and THEN you can change it to English. This is a basic picture I found on Google of the top-right menu:

And finally, some routers have been hacked and had the language change to Chinese Korean. I'm not saying it happened here, but be aware that some have been hacked and it's currently being discussed in different places on this forum, if you have questions.

Thanks for info I was trying to put vpn on router& it would not connect to net next time I tried to connect to Internet it was not possible after updating ASUs firmware.I have disc with router with quick set up with several languages selection but tried all of them & all in Japanese or Chinese I need screen shots of disc of login procedure to get in to interface to change it back to English

I was trying to instal vpn on router after putting all info in it would not connect I had already updated ASUs firmware as requested by ASUs.Next time tried to login with disc language was changed &all selected languages were back to I think default having purchased this through international company with UK at end of website If I had screen shots of login procedure in English of disc I could then enter interface to change it back to English

@Bertie7 did you find the router changed to Koreean out of nowhere ? If so, did it had the web port open to manage it over Internet ?
Because it happen to me a few times and I am thinking it could have been hacked ?!

What firmware version are you using?

The "Korean" hack was most common with 380.69, but then it got patched in 380.70 IIRC.

So the "Korean" thing was indeed a known hack ? :O

It is 3.0.0.4.380_7266-g6439257
And I see that if I check for firmware it loads forever, but the asus site does show a newer one 3.0.0.4.382.50624.
I think someone tweaked my router )

The current firmware version for the RT-AC68U is 3.0.0.4_384_45149-g467037b.

My bad, I actually have Asus AC 56U and this topic is about 68U.
But the issue is there, I run above firmware (out of date) and router cannot "see" the new version. I need to look into manual firmware update.

Rather than that very old firmware from Asus, consider the RMerlin fork by john9527 instead. Highly recommended.

I was clicking the button to look at clients on 2.4 then on 5ghz and the language menu appeared over the client list momentarily then disappeared.

My problem is that when I open google, youtube anything else it shows me ads from korea and opens google korean
