Linksys E3200

New Around Here
Good day folks...

Trying to figure out why my AVerlife ExtremeVision media player can not access my Dlink DNS-323 NAS through SMB. Is there anything in my Linksys E3200 Router that may cause this. I can click into and see the Root C drive of the NAS. If I try and go any further the media player pauses for 15 -20 seconds and comes back with a "Network Failed" Message.

I'm thinking about throwing the AVerMedia box in the garbage...

Setup:

NAS directly plugged into the back of my E3200. AVerMedia plugged into the network through a powerline adapter.

I can access the NAS through other devices just fine.

Appreciate any help...

Joe

PS: Oh BTW, great forum!!

Update the firmware on the media player? Looks like Ver.01.15.40 has been available since 8/5/2011. Try UPnP? You do realize UPnP can be used on a local network without the need to enable it on the router, the router setting is only to allow devices on the internet into your network using UPnP.

Thanks for the input overdrive31. So I can rule out the router :)

I have been running 01.15.40 since I installed the box a week ago; as well I have been been able to access the NAS using UPnP but it behaves weirdly when searching the drive for movies for example I cannot see all the movies I have uploaded to the NAS. Some show up some don't, the ones I do see I am able to play with no issues.

I have searched around a bit before coming here as well as communicate with tech support at AVerMedia regarding my problem with not being able to see all my movies through UPnP their suggestion: go through Samba LOL!

Try looking in the router for a setting called multicast or multicast stream and turn it on. My media player does this too using the Dlink router, usually I just reboot everything and items appear on the player. With my setup the router does somehow hinder the UPnP, with the player connected directly to the server there is never any missing items being shared. I would try another router perhaps.

I checked the router settings for "multicast" and found it under the security section under firewall filtering. Multicast is unfiltered, which is the correct setting to allow for multicast streaming so another dead end. Looks like the router isn't the problem. Still the bigger question is why I can not connect the AVerMedia using Samba to get into the NAS. I think its the AVerMedia box.

Thanks for your help!

Joe

Update:

I returned the AVerLife ExtremeVision box back and purchased a Pivos Aios for $35 more. The Aios works flawlessly using SMB and has so much more to offer.

You get what you pay for :)
