New Around Here
I have hooked up a usb drive to my RT-AC66U. It has concert videos on it in the root directory. I'm trying to access it from a Shield TV player on my LAN. The VLC player program sees the router but not the drive. Do I have to go into my router admin program to set the drive up or is it automatic?

Put the files you want to access in a folder. The router will not allow access to files in the root.

You have to configure the router under USB Application > Servers Center

I don't know what network protocols the Shield supports but you'll have to configure the appropriate one. For example, for DLNA it's the Media Server, for SMB it's Samba.

As the previous post said, for Samba you have to put the files in a folder unless you've enabled "Allow guest login".
