Looking for Home cloud/ NAS

I was FIRMLY in the "I'm not paying for features I don't need camp" until I actually bought a ZyXEL NSA310 and compared it to the QNAP TS-112P.

Both have 1.6Ghz Marvell chipsets. Both have USB3 and eSATA.

Only one of them crashes when I'm imaging two machines at once over the network.

I'm using literally NONE of the software QNAP provides right now. I've even disabled the media servers.

However, just the basic functionality (stability, ability to actually RESTORE a backup, etc.) is worth the extra money for me.

htismage,

I agree 100% with you. Stability over anything else is always worth more dollars. A NAS after all is not something that should need tinkering, troubleshooting or other timewasting activities when the whole point of it is to protect your data.

We all go through the USB attached drive to our always on computer, look for better functionality with a USB attached drive to our router and finally or hopefully get a NAS that finally gives us what we've been searching for.

The cost is high, yes. The stability, reliability and piece of mind is priceless.
