Losing Wifi to iphones and ipads

Recently I bought a switch to replace 2 smaller switches because I had some hard wired problems and the new switch has made a big difference and all is good on that side of things but on the wireless side, connection to the ipads and iphones and some other wireless devices are shoddy, going in and out.
I have the RT-AC87R which I love but don't know how or why going to a new and very reliable switch could cause this problem or even if it's related.
I'm running the latest stock firmware but thought about jumping to Merlin because, why not? I've changed the channel and wifi starts to work well then stops again. I've got a guest setup and the same thing happens there. Friends have come over and tried their devices and the same thing happens.

About the only thing I can say different is that I put an OTA tv antenna near the router and wonder if that is causing some problems. Could it? Other ideas?
Thanks

Unlikely but it could be that some harmonics of the local oscillator in the TV tuner are leaking through with enough strength to mess up the signal or it is creating some odd reflections of the wifi signal. Try moving the router or TV antenna to a different location. Maybe you are getting some interference from other sources. Try changing the default 2.4 G channel to 1 or 11 if the above move doesn't fix it.
