Are Firmware options available to use with Mac? I have 2 new Asus routers, but I have a Mac so I am not sure if using merlin firmware is an option. can someone advise me on how to proceed if this is a possibility?

Mac is just your client. Please use a browser and follow installation instructions!

When I looked at the ASUS site for the router I bought, the firmware download for the router gave the option for macOS, but when I downloaded it it wasn’t readable by my computer. No readme or instructions listed

Cuz its for the router not for the mac. I have nothing but macs, and the asus routers work great.

Ok, after washing a brief set up video I now understand the process to get up and running. I need to set up an AI mesh with two routers and different ends of the house connected via ethernet. I bought two AX88u routers to accomplish this to somewhat future proof the set up, but I wonder if I’d be better off with two ac86u routers...

If AiMesh is your objective, I'd suggest you stick to Asus official firmware since the feature isn't supported by Merlin's flavor of Asuswrt firmware.

Did not know that, thanks! The only thing to figure out is to go bleeding edge ax88u or ac86u. I’m finding it hard to swallow spending $325 for AC if outdated in 6 months...

Where I live, a combo consisting of an RT-AC86U plus 2 x RT-AC68U would save you ~200US over 2 x RT-AX88U and give you one extra node.
