Macbook Pro Connection Issue

RuinerXL

New Around Here
I'm currently using the RT-AC66U and experiencing the same issue outlined in this post.

My laptop is a 13-inch, Mid 2009 MBP, and I do see a transmit rate of 300mbps if I reboot the router, but when waking the computer from standby, the transmit rate starts at 81mbps and gradually works its way back up to 150mbps, where it stays. My girlfriend's newer MBP sees 450mbps after rebooting the router, but also experiences the same issue, getting stuck at 150mbps when reconnecting after standby.

The original referenced post indicates that the switch to SDK6 in newer firmware seems to address this issue for the RT-N66U, but I've done extensive searching and can't seem to find anything for the RT-AC66U. Thanks in advance to anyone that can point me in the right direction, and my sincere apologies if this topic has been covered before!

Hi,
I have a MBP 2011,and the same router as you but I get 450 only on 5G.
I have the latest FW from Merlin and it works OK , on the 2.4G if this is the only frequence you can use is possible that you are in a congested area with many 2.4 spot so you router is doing is best to find a clear spot ( channel ) and this impact on the speed.
Please give us more info,
thanks

Thanks for the reply, saulos!

We're using 5 GHz exclusively on our laptops, mainly for the reason you stated (2.4 GHz is extremely crowded where I live). I do still broadcast on the 2.4 GHz band for a couple of devices we have that can't use 5 GHz, but that is on a separate SSID.

The issue is that both laptops max out at 150Mbps upon waking from standby/sleep mode, when I know they are capable of 300Mbps and 450Mbps link speeds, respectively. I do use a fixed channel, as well (48), as there are maybe one or two other 5 GHz networks that use channels in the triple digits.

I had the exact same problem with my retina and my ac66u. since updating to the latest merlin firmware, its all working perfectly. My retina does hit 450mbps.

this is the usual fix, but if you have the latest merlin firmware on your router, then do a factory reset on it.

Assuming that the problem is only found on Mac clients on your WLAN...I didn't see if anyone mentioned what ver OSX they are running but there have been reported difficulties w/ Mountain Lion & MBP -r models wifi. Some people have substituted Snow Leopard's wifi drivers, some manually recreated their launch agents folder, and other assorted tinkering I've heard do some magic.

1. http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/02/fix-os-x-mountain-lion-wireless-connection-problems/ (tips provided in article are good, don't overlook built in wireless diagnostic test suite, and in comments section search for user "Unix" for the terminal commands on recreating your launch agents folder)

2. I haven't looked to see (nor heard anyone in forums identify accordingly) if these problems persist in Mavericks

3. One of various threads of MBP -r wifi & Mountain Lion problems. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4176584?start=0&tstart=0

4. Also if your problems are only when coming out of a sleep is it both light sleep & hibernate sleep that will cause this? I've always disabled the hibernate mode because IMHO it's not worth the menial wattage savings over light sleep (and my MacBooks have SSDs that I don't need writing and reading a massive hibernation
system image to once or twice a day)

HTH

vdemarco: I went ahead and performed a factory reset before flashing the latest Merlin firmware. Hoping this does the trick!

PrivateJoker: Sorry, I failed to mention that I'm running OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).

I was having the issues with Mountain Lion, I am now running Mavericks.

I hope it works for you too.

To be honest when i first got this router (AC66U) i was very pissed off, it took a few months, and the latest version of the firmware is awesome now.

The only issue i have is that the iPad (running iOS7) is generating this message.

Oct 27 16:43:19 miniupnpd[2910]: unsupported NAT-PMP version : 2

In the log.

I looked at the source, its just a warning log. the iPad is working fine. I am just ignoring that one and not worrying about it.

Just wanted to check back in and let everyone know that Merlin's firmware did the trick!

Fantastic! Thanks for your help, everybody.
