Pretty sure no 3, is when the state is saved to ram but is lost when power is cut so probably best bet is no 2.

Exactly. It should, at least.
Should be a working option if the wife does not have access to the console.

N.B. Check if she would be able to switch off the server completely by LONG pressing the power button before using this option.

hmmm...dont like to do long power press...not good for hdd's, i spoke with estranged wife and told her that when she switches it on it will automatically power on server..she is happy to press the button five minutes later to turn it off...so im good to go problem solved, i will test option 3 though, hoping it might back up something using the cmos battery ?
