Maximus VI Extreme with Asus RT-AC66U Issue

Hello all. I posted this on the ROG Forums the other day and haven't gotten an anwer so I thought I would ask here and see what the network experts thought.

I am currently experimenting with the Asus RT-AC66u router and have been experiencing an issue. The network icon in the system tray shows a yellow triangle saying "No Internet Access" when resuming from sleep, even though I type this very message on the internet. I have the router updated with the latest Asus Firmware that came out on the 11th.

The strange thing is that both routers have the EXACT same setting on them down to the channels they use. I am hard wired into the router on this pc which is connected to the cable modem. The original router is a Linksys/Cisco E4200 v2. The E4200 does not have the triangle show up saying no internet access when resuming from sleep. So it has to be something between the board and the Asus router.

Any help is appreciated. I like the router but not the issue of my pc thinking I'm not connected.

I've tried the latest Merlin build hoping it would resolve the problem and it remains the same. Love the router, but can't live with this. Any ideas?

when you go from one router to the other wipe all network settings in your operating system and reconfigure the network connection. This should force it to pull a fresh IP address from the AC66u and think its connected to the internet. This is especially true when using wireless, wipe the SSID etc. Be sure to use newest drivers for onboard LAN on your motherboard.

Ip Renew didn't change anything. I'm out of ideas at this point. Adding a router to an existing router or cascading is pointless and I'm hardwired, not wireless.

Maybe RMerlin can answer with regard to the time for the RT-AC66U to find lan connections...

Do I understand you correctly that it works and stays connected, just the icon on your screen shows it's not?

Yes. The icon wouldn't be a problem. It's the fact that all AV believes it to be offline as well.

I'm hardwired to mine through powerline network. Asrock z68 Fatal1ty Professional mobo. I don't think the problem is the router. Why not just change your settings so your PC never goes to sleep?

Just googling Asus Maximus sleep issues it looks like a lot of those boards have the issue you are having.

While I appreciate the help there have been six different versions of Asus Maximus motherboards and all of the hardware is different. I have the Maximus Extreme VI which was just released around a month ago in the U.S.

The setup is fine with the Linksys so I would reasonably assume it is in fact the router. I was hoping it was some sort of setting that could be changed or a firmware flash would fix it.

And if you read about the numerous issues with wake / sleep on several models of the Maximus boards, it looks like the most common theory is related to graphics card drivers and AV issues...which is what you reported. Heck, I had an old Asus P5WDH Deluxe and it had wake/sleep issues long before Asus ever made a router. I just set mine to never go to sleep. Problem solved.

I think your problem is most likely to be a BIOS setting or BIOS version or something else with your mobo.

Not the board, a mobo driver is a slim chance. It almost has to be how the AC router obtains ip.

It's not the RT-AC66U unless yours is defective. My system goes to sleep, and I don't have any issue on wake up. Connects fine and icon shows connected fine. Windows 7 64. I just tested it right now. Twice. Did it hardwired and wireless. Works fine both ways.

I'm using ASUS firmware 3.0.0.4.354

Don't know if my settings help, but here it is:

I have QOS set to: OFF
Enable DHCP Server: YES
Enable Manual Assignment: NO
Enable Static Routes: NO
Enable Firewall: NO

What mobo are you using?
Are you using a Samsung 840 Pro SSD?

I'm using Windows 8 64bit.

It's great yours works but its only relevant if you have the same hardware.

If the problem was the RT-AC66U router, your issue with sleep / wake would not be dependent on which mobo or SSD one is using. If one has to build a system identical to yours to maybe duplicate your issue, that seems to point towards something with your system as the source of your issue, not the router.

Again you have ignored the fact that the Linksys works perfectly. The router is the only variable that changed the outcome when resuming from S3.
