Merging networks and NAS Virgin Superhub

dhpcham

New Around Here
I am struggling to merge two routers on my home network. I have a Virgin Superhub which receives the internet signal. This is then connected to a Netgear WNDR 3700 via homeplugs. The Netgear has a USB hardrive via Readyshare.

I managed to disable DHCP on the Netgear and could add to the Virgin network. The problem then became that I could no longer see or access the Readyshare "U" drive for stored music and for backups. Where am I going wrong?

If you disable DHCP/IP function on the Netgear router, it essentially becomes a Layer 2 device. At that point, I don't believe Readyshare will work anymore.

It shouldn't. It can still do routing. It can still host storage. All you are doing is disabling the DHCP sever.

Ensure that when you disabled DHCP that you also set a static IP address outside the range of the DHCP server on the virgin router, but make sure it is in the same subnet. IE if the Virgin is set to 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.200, set the Netgear to 192.168.1.201. Make sure you have the netgear hooked to the Virgin from LAN port to LAN port (NOT WAN).

Should work.

Are you trying to access the Readyshare drive by it's DNS name?

It's likely that disabling the DHCP server on the router disables the DNS daemon as well.

Try accessing via IP address and see if that works.
