Hello,

Since I installed the latest Merlin, I have been having my WAN go down aright after 3am daily for the last week or so. I have no clue what could be causing this. Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot this? I checked for any event logs on my modem and it never shows anything.

Code:
Sep 5 03:01:26 RT-AX86U-A9C8 kernel: eth0 (Int switch port: 3) (Logical Port: 3) (phyId: 3) Link DOWN.
Sep 5 03:01:33 RT-AX86U-A9C8 WAN(0)_Connection: WAN(0) link down.

Sep 6 03:08:24 RT-AX86U-A9C8 kernel: eth0 (Int switch port: 3) (Logical Port: 3) (phyId: 3) Link DOWN.
Sep 6 03:08:51 RT-AX86U-A9C8 WAN(0)_Connection: WAN(0) link down.

ISP upgrading hardware or software in your area probably.

I agree that has to be coming from the ISP end.

I too thought this was a ISP change but I'm seeing the same issue every morning ~04:00 (PDT) since I've upgraded. I did receive a new modem from Xfinity so I'll be trying it out tonight but I'm definitely suspicious of 3004.388.4.

On Friday, I swapped Xfinity modems then I ran into the same issue once Friday night then again ~4am Saturday morning.

Saturday night, I configured the router to use the 1G WAN port instead of the 2.5G port, I have not seen the issue since, granted it's only been one night, this is the first night since upgrading to .388.4 that I did not run into the WAN_Connection: WAN(0) link down issue.

@akb, I'm curious, is your router configured to use the 2.5G WAN port?

I should've mentioned that I'm using a GT-AX11000.

Welp, it happened again this morning after two mornings of no issues. I think I'm going to revert to 388.2 and see if I run into the same issue.

Code:
Sep 12 03:04:28 WAN_Connection: WAN(0) link down.
Sep 12 03:04:28 WAN_Connection: WAN was restored.
Sep 12 06:17:06 WAN_Connection: WAN(0) link down.
Sep 12 06:17:50 WAN_Connection: WAN(0) link down.
Sep 12 06:17:54 WAN_Connection: WAN(0) link up.

Reverting back to 388.2 did not solve the problem. It was just a coincidence that the problem started after upgrading the firmware. I accessed my Xfinity gateway and looked at the system uptime today, and it matches exactly when my WAN(0) link down went down. I'll try and get Xfinity to take a look.

They may be rolling out DOCSIS4 upgrades in your area.

It would be interesting if you changed the time on your router an hour or 2 off to see if this happens at the same time.

3AM - that's a maint window timeframe on the network side, so they may be doing network config/updates...

You can always check the modem logs and see what's happening there...

One good resource to check - https://www.dslreports.com/forum/comcast

They're pretty vocal, and there are Comcast team members that do check in from time to time...
